Dante Apaéstegui
Dante is an immigrant rights and reentry advocate. He is a senior paralegal at the Legal Action Center, an anti-discrimination public interest law firm, where he helps people with cases of discrimination due to arrest and conviction records, substance use disorders or their HIV status. He also works with the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice in Newark, NJ where he advocates for immigrant rights in New Jersey on the federal level. AYLF’s inaugural Newark cohort fellow, Dante was previously a research assistant at Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice. He has interned in the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender and the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice. Dante is in his first year of law school at Rutgers University. He earned his master’s in philosophy from the New School for Social Research and his bachelor’s is sociology and philosophy from Rutgers University, Newark.
