David McKinney

Executive Director, Youth Leadership Programs at the Aspen Institute

David has more than 25 years experience in the social sector advancing equity and opportunity. He was most recently executive vice president of public affairs with TNTP, an education nonprofit where he led efforts to implement better experiences for students in K-12 schools. Previously, David was the first director of the Center for Engagement and Neighborhood Building at Washington, D.C.’s Alliance for Strong Families and Communities. Earlier, he held several leadership positions over 14 years at Public Allies, a national service and leadership development organization. He began his career as a community organizer in his hometown of Milwaukee. David’s honors include a 2010 Aspen Institute fellowship for emerging nonprofit leaders and being selected as a 2009 American Express NGen Fellow by Independent Sector. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education policy from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
